Trovata SP09

You might not be as familiar with the line Trovata, however designer John Whitledge set sail into Fashion Week with his nautical inspired collection. Whitledge played with a simple color palette, mostly navy and white, with a few black and white gingham looks thrown in. His easy blazer looks add shape to usual sack dress...very Sienna in the Hamptons? My favorite look is pictured above. The simple shape is accented with a little white rope. It says, "Here I am Sailor. Ready for a good time!"

Not Elie's finest moment. He went "eco-friendly" however the major 70's and 80's influences are more like a direct design copies and just not modern at all. His floral and animal print gauzy gowns might seem more appropriate for Blanche Devereaux than the ladies of "Urban Paradise" that the designer so coined for the wearers of this collection. Not the most wearable piece from the collection, I do love the maillot shorts above. Very Blair Waldorf, eh?

Rachel Roy SP09

Rachel Roy's presentation of her Spring 2009 collection set the springtime mood with hues of sweet cream, palm prints, and the occasional heart adornment. The collection is far more modern than her usual mommy-type ensembles. However, she still pulls the ladylike card from last season, although playing it with a new idea of shape. Doing so makes her silhouettes significantly more interesting. I loved the leather studded skirt and her white leopard Manolos. Although, I must say some of the styling just really didn't work. A clunky elastic heel doesn't go with everything.

My favorite look is pictured above. The shape is such a departure for Rachel, yet her overall aesthetic is still apparent. The metallic underlay looks very Rachel, but the detachable black lace adorned tulip skirt is a step in a very needed new direction. Still not a standout, but Roy keeps us intrigued.

Long Time, No Talk

Oh Lovers, my apologies for being away so long. I have just been moving cross country, decorating a new apartment, and generally freaking out. However, I have been called back to the comp, because Fashion Week starts tomorrow! I plan to cover it as closely as I can, or as well as I can not being in New York. Happy tent hopping!
