My dearest apologies

My grammar has been quite dreadful today! My mind is literally everywhere, and I do apologize. Please note I do know that in the post "The Lucite Lounge," I am aware that it should read "Although there have been some hitches..." and in "Margiela's pour moi," I did use the word above twice in the same sentence.

Remember my darlings, we can't always be perfect, but we can always look chic!

The Lucite Lounge

It is t-minus 13 days till apartment decor time, and I'm sure you've been hearing the rumors. I have promised a lot and plan to deliver. Some of the highlights you may ask? It's black, white, and glam all over with a heavy nod of caning, of course. It truly is going to be AMAZING!

When I set out to decorate this apartment, I had one thing in mind: sophistication. I wanted a place where we could work, entertain, and enjoy being the sophisticated chic ladies we are. Hollywood Regency became the style. Although their have been some hitches: no lucite table or zebra rug (ouch!), we do have one exciting place to live, coming soon.

Bergdorf Goodman vs. The Goodwill

I'm going to let you in on a little secret, but only if you "Prada promise" not to tell. Poor people aren't the ones taking their last season wardrobe to The Goodwill. Even the most Neiman-noble fashion girls (myself included) have to admit when they find something amazing, they buy it; no matter if they cart it to their car in plastic or paper. I love designer clothes and investing in my wardrobe is a requirement of my job. That doesn't mean I always have to pay right-off- the-runway prices. Plus, I personally love the thrill of the thrift hunt. Perusing piles and rummaging through racks for hours, for that ingenious vintage piece sloshed in the middle of it all, begging you to take it home. Whether it's a vintage Burberry overcoat, or an antique fur, (both of which I have found and bought multiple times) these pieces are ready for the picking. I especially love it when I look online later and see the current season version of the coat I paid $10 for on burberry.com for $1295 (pictured above). Anyone can walk through a department store and pick up a dress that's right in front of them, but why would you want to be so boring?

P.S. If it the smell of the stores that's holding you back from all this bliss, one word: dry-cleaning.

Margiela's pour Moi

I usually won't highlight two pairs of shoes back to back, but everyone's been talking about these tan patent leather peep-toe booties from Maison Martin Margiela, and it's about time I DO TOO. In New York, editors are clamoring for the Belgian designer's black version to wear with floral dresses and colored tights, come Fall. OC alum and one of my fave style girls Rachel Bilson, in my opinion, above does them the best above. This chic chick has been seen in them tooling around L.A. all summer. I love the rolled jeans with them! What a funny way to highlight the boots and make casual look easy and chic! Their unique shape intrigues, yet they are so undeniably versatile. They must make it in to my closet ASAP! They're only $595 on eluxury.com, darlings!

Mama needs a new pair of Bottegas

When the pre-fall shoes landed on the shoe shelves at Bazaar, I fell in love with these little beauties. I have been waiting five months for them to finally land in stores and here they are, the perfect pair of Bottega Veneta booties,  $860 at www.net-a-porter.com. Their simple shape lends them to be worn a million different ways. I love the idea of them with a jewel tone dress with patterned stockings for a holiday party. Simply fabulous!

America's Next Top "Real Woman" Model?

One of Conde Nast's fashion magazines is looking for "real" women to grace their pages as models. This doesn't sound like Anna's cup of tea, so my bet is Vogue isn't the mag. Wondering if you're real enough? If you are an attractive woman between 20-30, a size 2-6, and between 5'5" and 5'11", you could be the next big (model size anyway) thing! Damn, I'm 2 out of 3. Soon your life could be 5 a.m. call times, professional hair and makeup, bikinis in January, and maybe one day a talk show or clothing line. According to Forbes.com, Gisele made $33 million in 2007, making her the highest paid model of last year.  Heck for $33 million, I could get down to a size 6.

Beinvenue en "Arrae of Style"

Bonjour my chic friends! My name is Rae and welcome to what shall now be my new blog. I have to admit this may be my first blog, however, what I lack in web-logging experience I promise to make up in stylish knowhow. This little notebook is a place where everything having to do with style can be discussed, pressed and polished. Neat and unique things can be shared among couture collectors and where ideas can be expanded into chic ensembles.

 

Who am I anyway? A young woman of the fashion world, or at least I like to think I'm on my way there. The writer of the former fashion column which this blog shares it's name. A previous fashion editor and contributor to magazines on both coasts. As well as a stylist in constant pursuit of that indescribable perfect piece.
